SEDONA VORTEXES (the proper grammatical form 'vortices' is rarely used) are thought to be swirling centers of energy that are conducive to healing, meditation, and self-exploration. These are places where the earth seems especially alive with energy.

Event date: October 2023

OBJECTIVE: Three-day team event (4 team members) from Sunrise to Sunset (6:30am to 7:30 pm) with nighttime activities that involve Sedona’s indigenous people as well as its mythology surrounding New Age mysticism and Spirituality. The physical involves 12 mountain climbs/trails to ascend from the trail head to the summit and descend to the trail head with distance rucking in between.

MISSION: 4 man/woman teams (at least one woman on each team but a team can have 4 women) compete in and around Sedona, Arizona to be a VORTEX FINISHER. Teams must climb 12 of the most challenging and dangerous peaks in Sedona. No ropes, no helmets, no gear. Just a ruck sack and a map. Teams must figure out the path up to summit the highest point of the mountain. When all four team members arrive at the top, one team member must grab their team color ribbon out of a metal box. The team must complete the physical task given to them at the peak and take an iPhoto. The team will then descend the mountain. (Teams will hand the race ribbons to the race coordinator at the end of each day.) Teams then take off onto the trails to run/walk/ruck with physical and mental tasks and historical location destination relevancies visited in between. Each mountain climb will be a reasonable distance away from the last one (at least two miles but no longer than 5 miles). FOUR Peaks must be climbed on Day one. FOUR on Day two. Four on Day three. All Day One and Day Two climbs must be completed on that day or the Team is disqualified for day two/three. Vehicles can only be used to arrive at the start locations and to return to hotels/homes.

Competitors get to sleep in their hotels/houses/cabins and plan the next day’s climbs the night before.
